The canton of Laxou is a French constituency in the arrondissement of Nancy , in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle and in the region of Grand Est (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Laxou .

The canton is located in the southern half of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department west of Nancy .
history
The canton was created on January 25, 1982 by splitting off from the cantons of Pompey (Laxou) and Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy (Villers-lès-Nancy). The planned division of the canton into the two cantons Laxou and Villers-lès-Nancy on February 21, 1997 was never carried out. There were no changes in the reorganization of the cantons in France (apart from the new canton number 5406 instead of 5439).

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the three voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Pierre Baumann / Valérie Beausert-Leick (both PS) won against Carole Breneur / Alain Chardon (both UDI ) with 50.46% of the votes (turnout: 49.36%).
