history

A first canton of Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy was established on August 2, 1973 with the two municipalities of Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy and Villers-lès-Nancy. In 1982 Villers-lès-Nancy moved to the new canton of Laxou. Thus, the canton existed in its current size from 1982 to 1997. At that time, the municipality was divided into the two cantons Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy-Est and Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy-Ouest . The current canton was created when the French cantons were redistributed in 2015 with the reunification of the two city cantons.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Sylvie Crunchant / Stéphane Hablot (both PS) won against Dominique Renaud / Marc Saint Denis (both Union de la Droite) with a share of the vote of 62.32% (turnout: 43.17%) .
