history
The canton was first founded in 1790 within the district of Vic-sur-Seille . The canton initially comprised the eight municipalities of Arracourt , Athienville , Bathelémont-lès-Bauzemont , Bezange-la-Grande , Bures , Juvrecourt , Réchicourt-la-Petite and Xanrey . After the districts were dissolved in 1795, the canton existed for another six years and was moved to the arrondissement of Château-Salins in the course of the reorganization of the administration from the year VIII ; in the following year the number of cantons (= peace courts) in the arrondissement was reduced by amalgamation; the area of the canton became part of the canton Vic-sur-Seille.
The re-establishment took place after 1871 when, due to the war, the canton Vic with the larger part of the arrondissement Château-Salins was ceded to the German Empire. The canton now included the municipalities of Arracourt, Athienville, Bathelémont-lès-Bauzemont, Bezange-la-Grande, Bures, Coincourt , Juvrecourt, Réchicourt-la-Petite and Xures . Mouacourt and Parroy were only annexed to the canton of Arracourt between 1973 and 1987 by the canton Lunéville-Süd.
As the smallest canton in the Lunéville arrondissement, it was dissolved as part of the electoral reform to become the Conseil départemental on December 31, 2014. All municipalities of the canton came to the now considerably expanded canton of Baccarat .
