Vic-sur-Seille (German since 1915: Wich ) is a French commune with 1295 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

geography

The community is located 50 kilometers southeast of the departmental capital Metz on the Seille River . The municipality is part of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park .

history

Consecration stones indicate an ancient name Vicus Bodatius or Bodesius Vicus . Vic is in the center of the Saulnois , the bishops of Metz took their seat here in 1234. With the bishopric of Metz , Vic came under French sovereignty in 1648 as part of the three bishoprics .

From 1871 to 1918 the place belonged to the German Empire . From 1915 to 1918 the place was given the German-sounding name Wich and the station was named Wich (Lorraine) . 1940-44 the place was renamed again in Wich .

The Gris de Vic is a locally marketed rosé wine in the style of Gris de Toul . With this wine, the Saulnois viticulture , which was abandoned in World War I , was revived.
