Xouaxange (German Schweixingen ) is a French commune with 305 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins .

geography

Xouaxange is located south of Sarrebourg on the Rhine-Marne Canal at an altitude between 255 and 341 meters above sea level. The municipal area covers 5.16 km².

The northeastern hamlet of La Forge ( Oberhammer ) also belongs to the municipality of Xouaxange .

history

In the area of ​​the village are the remains of some villas from the Roman era. The village itself was first mentioned in 1240 as Schwekesingen . It was German until 1661, then came to France, became German again in 1871 and then French again in 1919. In the period from 1939 to 1945 it was again under German administration and then again under French administration.
