Mittelbronn is a French commune with 688 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the canton of Phalsbourg in the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins and is the administrative seat of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Phalsbourg .
geography
Mittelbronn is located about 14 kilometers northeast of Sarrebourg and immediately west of Phalsbourg near the narrowest point of the Vosges at an altitude between 249 and 347 m above sea level. The hamlet Schnekenhof ( Schneckenhof ) also belongs to the community of Mittelbronn .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1523 and after the devastation of the Thirty Years War only had five inhabitants. Mittelbronn belonged to France from 1661, then became German again through the Peace of Frankfurt in 1871 and French again after the First World War . The region was again under German administration during the Second World War .
