geography

Lutzelbourg is located about 15 kilometers east of Saarburg an der Zorn and on the parallel Rhine-Marne Canal at an altitude between 205 and 397 m above sea level. The municipality covers 5.84 km².

history

The place is named after a medieval castle Lützelburg , which was destroyed in 1523. It belonged to France from 1661, then became German again through the Peace of Frankfurt in 1871 and French again after the First World War. The region was again under German administration during the Second World War.

There has been a partnership between Lutzelbourg and Lützelburg (part of the municipality of Gablingen in Bavaria) for around 20 years, which is organized in the form of regular meetings.
