Vibersviller (German Wiebersweiler , Lorraine Wiberschwiller ) is a French commune with 454 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins , to the canton of Le Saulnois and to the communal association Communauté de communes du Saulnois .
geography
Vibersviller is located in the Saulnois seven kilometers east of Albestroff on the border with the Bas-Rhin department at an altitude between 216 and 266 meters above sea level. The municipal area covers 13.02 km² (1,302 hectares). The northern hamlet of Sainte-Elisabeth also belongs to the municipality.
history
Vibersviller is located on the old Roman road from Strasbourg (Argentorate) to Metz (Divodurum) . In the 13th century, the village belonged to the Seigneurie Fénétrange-Schwanhals . In 1565 Vibersviller was reformed . In the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) the village was destroyed.
1793 received Vibersviller in the course of the French Revolution (1789-1799) the status of a municipality and 1801 the right to local self-government.
Due to changes in territory in the course of the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871), which were finally confirmed in the Peace of Frankfurt , Vibersviller became German in 1871. In 1919, the municipality fell back to France through renewed changes of territory in the course of the First World War (1914–1918).
