Sarraltroff (German Saaraltdorf ) is a French commune with 748 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins .

geography

Sarraltroff is about five kilometers north of Sarrebourg on the Saar at an altitude between 235 and 326 m above sea level, the mean height is 260 m. The municipality covers 11.97 km².

history

The village came in 1766 with the transfer of the Duchy of Lorraine to the French King Louis XV. from the Holy Roman Empire to the Kingdom of France . From 1871 to 1918 Saaraltroff belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine . After the defeat of the German Reich in World War I in 1918, the village became part of the Third French Republic . From 1940 to 1944 Saaraltroff was under German occupation and belonged to the Lorraine CdZ area . Saaraltroff has belonged to France since 1945.
