Gondrexange (German Gunderchingen ) is a French commune with 491 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).
geography
The municipality of Gondrexange is located eleven kilometers southwest of Sarrebourg on the Rhine-Marne Canal . The municipality is part of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park .
Almost the entire 7 km² Étang de Gondrexange ( Gunderchinger Weiher ) belongs to the community . The pond was originally created in the 14th century for fish farming and opened up and enlarged as a water reservoir when the Rhine-Marne Canal was built. It also serves to feed the Saar Canal, which branches off from the Rhine-Marne Canal in the pond. In the years 1880 to 1882, the water received its current capacity by increasing the dam.
Located just west of Gondrexange are the farm La Canardière ( Entenhof ) and the Ketzing Castle, northeast the Good Skin Ghor ( Kaisermatt ).
history
In 1121 the place was first mentioned as Gunderchinga . Gondrexange has been part of France since 1681. 1871–1918 the village was temporarily part of the German Empire again . 1915–1918 and during the German occupation 1940–1944 it was renamed “Gunderchingen”. It was destroyed at the end of the Second World War .
