The Étang de Gondrexange (German: Gunderchinger Weiher ) is a lake in the Grand Est region , in the southeast of the Moselle department , near Sarrebourg . The lake has an area of 770 hectares.
The lake was dammed by monks for fish farming in the 14th century. Around 1880 the Canal de la Marne au Rhin (Rhine-Marne Canal) and the Canal des Houillières de la Sarre ( Saar Canal ) were led through the lake and have since divided it into several parts. The Étang de Gondrexange was enlarged at that time and has served as a water reservoir for the two canals ever since.
At the lake there is a communal campsite, a restaurant, a beach and a canoe / pedal boat station. It is suitable for fishing, swimming and sailing. Motor boats are not allowed. A paved hiking trail leads around the lake, which also crosses the Canal de la Marne au Rhin by means of a bridge. The village of Gondrexange is located at the southeast corner of the pond .
The cycle path from Saarbrücken to Strasbourg leads past the Étang de Gondrexange.
