Hangviller (German Hangweiler ) is a French commune with 263 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins .
geography
Hangviller is located on the border with the Bas-Rhin department , about five kilometers northwest of Phalsbourg at an altitude between 217 and 302 m above sea level. The municipality covers 4.52 km².
history
Hangviller was founded as the domain of the Graufthal Abbey and was reformed in 1556. The place belonged to France from 1661, then became German again through the Peace of Frankfurt in 1871 and French again after the First World War. The region was again under German administration during the Second World War.
