Hérange ( German Heringen ) is a French commune with 108 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins and the canton of Phalsbourg .

geography

Hérange is about ten kilometers northeast of Sarrebourg at an altitude between 274 and 334 m above sea level.

history

There used to be a castle near the small village, but it was destroyed in the Thirty Years War . Most of the municipal area came to France in 1661, the rest in 1766. The town became German again through the Peace of Frankfurt in 1871 and French again after the First World War. The region was again under German administration during the Second World War.
