Haselbourg (German Haselburg ) is a French commune with 315 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins .

geography

The municipality of Haselbourg is located on the Zorn in the Vosges , between Sarrebourg and Dabo . The hamlets of Guinguette ( Gingelt ), Kaysershoff ( Kaiserhof ) and Schacheneck belong to the municipality of Haselbourg .

history

The place is a Roman foundation and was a military base for several centuries. The place name is derived from the Celtic word Aïs , which means "fortified place". In the 7th century Haselbourg is mentioned as Aschowa , 1050 as a half-surt . In 1523 it was destroyed with the exception of a single farm and only rebuilt from 1568 onwards. In the Thirty Years' War Haselbourg was again destroyed, belonged from 1661 to France, was then by the Treaty of Frankfurt in 1871 again German and French again after the First World War. The region was again under German administration during the Second World War.
