The BA-10 is a Soviet reconnaissance vehicle from World War II .

The BA-10 reconnaissance vehicle was introduced to the Red Army in 1938 . The Soviet leadership was looking for an armored and well-armed vehicle for battlefield reconnaissance. The basis of the chassis was the modified chassis of the GAZ-AAA truck . The frame has been reinforced to support the additional weight. To increase traction, a simple crawler track could be pulled over the twin tires on the rear axles .

A powerful 45 mm cannon was housed in the fully closed turret - at that time not a common standard in reconnaissance vehicles . A 7.62 mm machine gun was installed in the hull as secondary armament .

During the Second World War, the BA-10 proved to be a very functional vehicle. In the early years, the armament corresponded roughly to the standard of most battle tanks in use. In addition, the BA-10 was extremely agile and fast in contrast to tracked vehicles . The German Wehrmacht captured many of these vehicles. She quickly recognized the value of the vehicle. Both in the conquered territory of the Soviet Union and in the Balkans, the Germans used the combat vehicle under the designation Panzerspähwagen Ba 10 203 (r) in partisan warfare . The vehicle proved to be extremely agile and effective. In addition to a floating variant, there was a crew transporter, an ammunition transporter and an ambulance vehicle as variants.

BA-10 remained in service with the Red Army until 1943.
