The GAZ-4 ( Russian ГАЗ-4 ) is a truck made by the Soviet vehicle manufacturer Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod . It was produced in series from 1933 to 1936 and is technically based on the GAZ-A passenger car and the GAZ-AA truck . Depending on the sources, the vehicle is alternatively referred to as a pickup , and 1934 is also mentioned as the first year of construction.

description

In the early 1930s, there was a significant need for light commercial vehicles in the Soviet Union. Since the only suitable vehicle mass-produced at that time was the GAZ-A passenger car, a light truck was developed on its basis that used the car's chassis. In addition, the driver's cab of the GAZ-AA truck was installed. Since the GAZ-A was a copy of the American Ford Model A , the GAZ-4 still has considerable technical similarities with this vehicle. The size of the loading area was 1.10 × 1.60 meters.

In the period from 1933/34 to 1936, according to various sources, 5,300 to 10,600 GAZ-4 trucks were built. It is unclear exactly why production was stopped. A comparable model was not built until a few years later, the GAZ-M415 , but it was based on the GAZ-M1 . Most of the GAZ-4s were destroyed in World War II, and only a few have survived to this day.
