The GAZ-67 ( Russian ГАЗ-67 ) and the later, revised variant GAZ-67B were Soviet multi-purpose military vehicles with all-wheel drive , which were built by Gorkowski Avtomobilny Sawod (GAZ) from 1943 onwards. Until the end of World War II , it was the Soviet equivalent of the Willys Jeep .

history

The GAZ-67 was a further development of the earlier GAZ-64 . A major improvement was a wider track of 1446 mm. It also had a reinforced chassis, enlarged fuel tanks, and other improvements. The vehicle was of a somewhat stronger version of the engine of the GAZ-M1 driven with 54 HP (40 kW). It is a four-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 3280 cm³. The GAZ-67 reached a top speed of 90 km / h.

Series production began on September 23, 1943, and 718 had been made by the end of the year. By comparison, the Soviet Union received over 50,000 jeeps from the United States in 1943 under the Lend Lease Act . From January 1944, the GAZ-67B, which had some mechanical improvements, went into series production. A total of 5569 vehicles had been built by the end of the war. By 1953, the total number increased to 92,843 before production was switched to the successor GAZ-69 .

In 1975 the Soviet Post dedicated a stamp to the GAZ-67B.
