The GAZelle Business ( Russian ГАЗель Бизнес ) is a small van from Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Sawod (GAZ), which is produced in Nizhny Novgorod . The model, available since 2010, is based on the GAZelle , which has been built since 1994 , but is a revised version of this light commercial vehicle. The curb weight is given as 1850–1900 kg. The business line differs in its higher reliability, 5 percent lower fuel consumption and an 8 percent shorter braking distance. The warranty has been increased from 10,000 to 15,000 miles and the price compared to the GAZelle has also been increased. The model was developed as a transitional solution in order to be able to compete against the increasing import or assembly of western and technically higher quality products such as Mercedes Sprinter , Fiat Ducato , Ford Transit or the Lada-Renault M90 . Originally, the LDV Maxus was to be the successor to the GAZelle and was also to be built in Russia . However, due to financial problems, this only succeeded in small numbers and due to the bankruptcy of LDV (Van) with the sale of the trademark rights to SAIC , GAZ had to reorient itself, which is why the business was constructed as a temporary solution. With the GAZelle NEXT , there has been a new model since 2013 that is intended to replace both the GAZelle Business and the variants still built by the GAZelle in the long term.

Model history

GAZelle Business in the ambulance version

Development began in 2008, with the statistics of warranty repairs, spare parts sales and dealer and customer surveys serving as the basis for 130 design changes. On February 4th 2010 the GAZelle Business with the internal name G425AZ 152 was officially presented. The UMP-4216 petrol engine with 78 kW (106 PS) is used as the drive. This was a modernized UMP-4.216.10 from the GAZelle. In addition to a new engine control unit, the maximum torque is now 220.5 Nm at a fairly low 2500 rpm for gasoline engines. Improved engine mounts are now from the Anvis Group and the aluminum radiator from TRM. Bosch supplies electrical components and brake parts, in particular the master brake cylinder and the brake booster. There is also a standard anti-lock braking system , which is also supplied by Bosch. ZF supplies parts of the clutch and the power steering. Outwardly, the GAZelle Business differs from the GAZelle in terms of different front bumpers, the radiator grille and new paintwork. The differences are smaller indoors. In addition to a new speedometer, steering wheel and additional storage space, an audio system from Blaupunkt and heated exterior mirrors are now standard. If the GAZelle had a Steyr diesel engine until 2008 , in the end only gasoline engines were available. A 2.8 liter ISF turbo diesel engine from Cummins was offered at GAZelle Business from July 20, 2010 , which is also optionally available with a cruise control system. Since April 2011, ABS has also been available or fitted as standard for the all-wheel drive variants.

Sales in the first six months of 2010 amounted to 10,000 vehicles, which corresponded to 35% of the total number of GAZ cells sold during this period. In December 2010 the vehicle already accounted for 94% of total sales, and by June 2011 100,000 vehicles had been sold. An optional air conditioning system has also been available since June 2011, while the petrol engine was upgraded with the UFG 4,216.70. In 2011 the Business Gazelle also became the market leader in the Russian market in the light commercial vehicle segment, replacing its predecessor, which had been expanded in some versions.

Since February 2013, the petrol engine has also been available as the UMP-4216.70 with CNG conversion as a natural gas vehicle.
