LDV was a British manufacturer of light commercial vehicles that existed from 1993 to 2009.

history

In 1987 Freight Rover was merged with DAF to form Leyland DAF . In 1993 Leyland DAF went bankrupt. A group of investors took over Leyland DAF and founded LDV Limited = Leyland Trucks and Vans. From 1998 to 2000, LDV was the main sponsor of the Aston Villa football club .
The Russian vehicle manufacturer GAZ acquired a stake in LDV in 2006 and later also took over the majority in LDV. Due to the worldwide recession, sales of LDV collapsed in 2008 and the Russian parent company GAZ did not want to provide any further funds. As a result, production at the Birmingham factory was stopped in December 2008. At the end of April 2009, the end was looming when the bankruptcy proceedings were announced.
The British government tried once more to save society by giving guarantees of £ 5 million. But the only interested party, the Malaysian WestStar Corporation, could not finance the takeover. PricewaterhouseCoopers sold the company's assets on October 15, 2009 to the Chinese Eco Concept investment company. This was commissioned by SAIC . SAIC has been producing the SAIC Maxus since 2011, a model based on the last LDV product Maxus . In 2008, 9308 Maxus were produced at LDV, which were sold by 2010. With the bankruptcy, over 900 employees at LDV lost their jobs.
