The LDV Convoy is a van from LDV Limited . In 1993 Leyland DAF went bankrupt. This was newly created in 1993 from the bankruptcy estate of Leyland DAF alongside Leyland Trucks LTD . Originally, development for a successor to the Leyland DAF 200-400 series started together with Renault and GAZ . Due to the bankruptcy, Renault took over the previous results for itself and developed the Renault Master II and Iveco Daily III together with Iveco . The part of Leyland DAF's development work ended up at GAZ and this became the GAZelle . Thus, LDV expanded the Leyland DAF 200-400 series and developed the LDV Pilot under the project name Bulldog as a replacement for the 200 series and the LDV Convoy for the 400 series.
LDV Convoy 1997-2006
In 1997 the pilot and the convoy were presented. The body now had less angular front panels and a more modern design. A redesigned dashboard and a new interior design were installed. Unlike the pilot, the Convoy had a 2.4 liter diesel engine with 74 hp. With a turbocharger , it made 89 hp. It was offered with a gross vehicle weight of 2.8, 3.1 or 3.5 tons and had a maximum loading volume of 12.9 cubic meters. Most of the copies sold were sold as minibuses and flatbed trucks . As a panel van it was underpowered due to the weak engine power. In the fleet business, he was very often ordered by the police and the Royal Mail . However, with the advent of the Vauxhall Vivaro and the new Ford Transit 2000, both from domestic production, sales fell sharply. Only with the appearance of the new LDV Maxus was LDV able to achieve noteworthy sales again. After the Maxus was also available in larger versions and with powerful engines, production of the Convoy and the Pilot was discontinued in 2006. In 2007 there was a survey of more than 100,000 commercial vehicle magazine readers who voted the series, which was no longer available at the time, as the national Van Of The Year 2007.
