Leyland DAF

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leyland DAF was a commercial vehicle manufacturer in the UK and a division of DAF (automobiles) NV.

history

The company was founded in 1987 after the UK government privatized the Austin Rover Group . The bus division (Leyland Busses) was spun off from Leyland in 1986 and sold to Volvo in 1988 . The car division with Land Rover became the Rover Group . Leyland Trucks and Freight Rover have now been merged with DAF to form DAF NV .

The new company DAF NV was jointly owned by DAF Beheer BV (60%) and the Rover Group (40%). It presented its products as Leyland DAF in the UK and Ireland, otherwise as DAF . The trucks were produced at the locations in Leyland Lancashire , Great Britain and Eindhoven , the Netherlands, as well as vans in Birmingham , Great Britain. The company was listed on the Dutch stock exchange. Initially, this business combination was very successful, as DAF brought a successful model onto the market with the DAF 95 in 1988, which, thanks to the increased production capacity, was also able to meet the high demand. In addition, DAF was now able to offer more modern offers below heavy tractors. So was z. B. from the Leyland Roadrunner of the DAF 45/55 . With the DAF 200-400, which is based on the Freight Rover 200-300 , DAF was able to offer a small van again. At the same time, Leyland DAF increased its market share and DAF became the fourth largest truck manufacturer after Scania , MAN and Volvo . After sales in the commercial vehicle sector fell as a result of the recession, DAF NV went bankrupt in 1993. DAF NV was later taken over by PACCAR. DAF and Leyland are both wholly owned by PACCAR.
