Teodora Gheorghiu

Teodora Gheorghiu (born May 8, 1978 in Brașov ) is a Romanian opera singer (lyrical coloratura soprano ).

Life

Teodora Gheorghiu began her musical training on the flute as an instrument. She later completed her vocal training with Niculina Mirea and Gheorghe Rosu at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca . Further master classes followed. After she was awarded prizes for the best interpretation at singing competitions in Romania, she received awards at the Concours Reine Elisabeth in Brussels, and the singing competitions "Julian Gayarre" in Pamplona and "George Enescu" in Bucharest.

Her operatic debut took place in 2003 at the Opera Română in Bucharest with the role of Queen of the Night ( The Magic Flute ). In 2003 she received a scholarship from the “Herbert von Karajan Center” of the Vienna State Opera . The following year she made her state opera debut in Vienna.

For the 2004/2005 season, Teodora Gheorghiu initially went to Belgium as a member of the Opéra Studio to the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth , where she perfected herself with Susanna Eken and José van Dam , and then moved to the Lucerne Theater ensemble for the 2005-2007 seasons .

Fetched back to the Haus am Ring by State Opera Director Ioan Holender , she was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera during the 2007–2010 seasons. In Vienna she sang the following roles, among others: Adele ( Die Fledermaus ), the Queen of the Night ( Die Zauberflöte ), Nannetta ( Falstaff ), Fiakermilli ( Arabella ), Adina ( L'elisir d'amore ), Elvira ( L'italiana in Algeri ), Sophie ( Werther ) and Eudoxie ( La juive ).

At the same time, her international career also consolidated from Vienna. Teodora Gheorghiu was a guest at the Théâtre La Monnaie in Brussels, the Lucerne Theater , the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, the Grand Théâtre de Genève , the Opéra de Lausanne and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris , where she in roles such as Rosina ( Il barbiere di Siviglia ) or Musetta ( La Bohème ) could be heard. At the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2009 she sang the role of the Italian singer ( Capriccio ). In summer 2011 she gave a series of concerts at the Festival International d'Opéra Baroque in Beaune. At the Glyndebourne Festival 2014 she sang the role of Sophie in Rosenkavalier. Teodora Gheorghiu worked with conductors Seiji Ozawa , Franz Welser-Möst , Marco Armiliato , Bertrand de Billy , Peter Schneider , Robin Ticciati , Ádám Fischer and Christophe Rousset .
