The 31xx series is an upper middle class passenger car from the Soviet and now Russian manufacturer GAZ - Volga , which was produced from 1982 (model 3102) until the summer of 2010. The price of the Volga in the simplest configuration was around 8,000 US dollars. Although the price of a new car was cheap, sales in Russia have recently declined. The basic technology as well as the body shape go back to the GAZ-24 Volga model , which was first presented in 1969.

The GAZ-3102 Volga model came onto the market in 1982 as a luxury version of the GAZ-24 Volga and was only sold within the Soviet Union (CIS). It differs from the 24 Volga by a new front and rear section, a modified interior with a new dashboard and three-spoke steering wheel, as well as recessed exterior door handles. The front triangular window was omitted. Initially, the ZMZ-4022 was installed, a four-cylinder stratified charge in - line engine with 105 HP (78 kW), similar to the Honda CVCC process, which, however, proved to be prone to failure if it was not cared for and therefore at the end of the 80s by the cheaper ZMZ 402.10 with 100 PS (73 kW) was replaced. The ZMZ-505 5.53 l V8 engine with 195 HP (143 kW) was still available for the security forces. Some details of the 3102 were adopted in the late 1980s as part of the facelift for the 24 Volga (now Volga GAZ-2410), e.g. B. the interior and the changed doors. The Volga 3102 was built as a luxury model above the 3110 and made all modifications in the course of the facelift of the models 31029, 3110 and 31105 built in parallel. A station wagon with the front of the 3102 was not available from the factory.

The GAZ-31029 Volga has been in production since 1992 and represents the revised version of the 3102 model. The front section was changed (later adopted for the "GAZel '" van), the interior corresponded to the 3102. However, it replaced the 24 Volga in the Production. The station wagon is the Volga 31022. It replaced the Volga GAZ-2402. The station wagon took over the front of the 31029 and the interior used together in 31029 and 3102. It stayed at the rear of the 2402. Like the 3102, this generation of the Volga was never offered in Germany. It was replaced in 1997 when the new 3110 was introduced on the CIS market.

The GAZ-3110 Volga was introduced in 1997 as the successor to the 31029. On the outside, the difference to the 31029 is the modified radiator grille and the completely new rear section with semi-oval taillights. The 3110 got a completely new interior, which was designed more ergonomically than in the previous models. Initially, the standard 2.5-liter, 12-valve, 4-cylinder carburetor engine ZMZ-402.10 with 100 HP (73 kW) remained, but the diesel engines ZMZ-560 and ZMZ-561 were also offered as alternatives. In addition, the 2.3-liter, 16-valve, 4-cylinder injection engine ZMZ-4062.10 with 145 PS (106 kW) was added. Shortly after the introduction of the 3110, it got white front indicator lenses instead of the orange ones from the 31029. In 2001 there was a slight facelift with modified front and rear sections and lowered aprons instead of the previous plastic bumpers, which made the 3110 look much more modern and impressive.

The GAZ-31105 Volga is the modernized version of the GAZ-3110 Volga, but the old version was produced in parallel to the 31105 for a short time. Externally, the new front section, which is reminiscent of the GAZ-3111, which is only produced in small numbers, can be seen as a distinguishing feature. Also new are more modern plastic hinged door handles instead of the metal hinged handles previously used. In order to create more space for the rear passengers, new front seats are used. The 2.5-liter carburettor engine was replaced by a four-valve gasoline engine (4 cylinders, 2287 cm³ displacement, 96 kW / 131 PS) with a DaimlerChrysler license. The turbodiesel direct injection (81 hp) based on the Steyr license, which was also offered in the 3110 model in the last model years, is particularly popular with commercial customers in warmer regions. Another new feature is a more modern front axle design that no longer needs to be lubricated. Since the station wagon version plays almost no role in terms of the number of units, this facelift remained with the rear of the 2402. In 2006, 51,000 Volga are to be sold, almost a quarter of them with Chrysler engines . Since April 2006, the factory management has said that the Volga “will continue to be built for as long as the market needs it.” Accordingly, production was stopped in summer 2010. The main reason is likely to be the low sales figures; the financial crisis hit the Russian automotive market very hard in 2009 and 2010.
