The GAZ-03-30 ( Russian ГАЗ-03-30 ) was a 17-seater omnibus, which was first manufactured in the Soviet Union from 1933 to 1950 with an interruption in the war years by Gorkowski Avtomobilny Sawod . It was technically based on the GAZ-AA truck .

Manufacturing history

After the mass production of the GAZ-AA in Nizhny Novgorod at GAZ started between 1930 and 1932 , bus bodies were also built on the truck chassis in 1933. The method of taking everything from the truck except the driver's cab and loading area and building a bus on it was also used in the successor models. It can be traced via the direct successor GZA-651 (1949–1973) and its successor KAwZ-685 (1971–1993) up to KAwZ-3976 (1992–2008).

In 1938 the new engine of the GAZ-M1 was also used in the commercial vehicle sector for the first time. The most important difference to the previous engine was an increase in output of 10 hp.

Bus production was suspended during the Second World War. This was the case at least from 1942 to 1944, according to other sources also from 1941 to 1945. After the war, some changes to the bus due to material shortages that had already been made to the truck came into effect. The post-war models are visually recognizable by the angular front fenders.

From 1946 the Gorkowski Avtobusny Sawod (GZA) ( Russian Горьковский автобусный завод (ГЗА) ) took over the bus production of GAZ as an independent plant. There production was also discontinued in 1950 after 18,613 vehicles in favor of the successor GZA-651 . In contrast to the truck with over a million units built, the bus was seldom seen.

Today three vehicles from the bus version are still known. Two of them are in Saint Petersburg , one in Riga .

Nothing is known about the number of units and years of construction.
