The KAwZ-3976 ( Russian КАвЗ-3976 ) is a bus from Russian production. The vehicle was built by Kurganski Avtobusny Zavod in Kurgan on the basis of the chassis of the GAZ-3307 truck . As with its predecessors, there is also an all-wheel drive version of this bus. The otherwise identical KAwZ-39766 uses the chassis of the GAZ-3308 all-wheel-drive truck .

History of the vehicle

Already in 1989 the production at GAZ began to be converted to the new truck type GAZ-3307. KAwZ traditionally used truck frames from GAZ for its buses, as well as engines and sheet metal parts. As a result, KAwZ endeavored to convert production to a new type of bus.

The first steps in this direction were taken in 1989. There was a transitional variant of the previous model KAwZ-3271, which still used the main components of the old series, but also took over parts of the new truck such as the steering column and instruments. In 1992, production was finally changed over to the main components such as the engine, frame and the front body of the GAZ-3307.

In 2000 the vehicle was revised, which was also reflected in the type designation through the additional last number 2. From 2003, the Kurgan plant began to produce more and more other models. On January 18, 2008, the last bus in the series rolled off the assembly line.

As usual with the previous vehicles, even small modernizations or technical changes have been given their own model number. These are characterized by the numbers (follow) attached to the basic variant KAwZ-3976. Over the years there have been more than 15 variants of the vehicle with their own designations. The most important and interesting of these are listed below.

KAwZ-3976 - the basic variant introduced in 1992 and produced until 2000.
KAwZ-39761 - as with the two previous models, there was a model with liquid gas drive . The curb weight was slightly increased by the additional technology installed.

KAwZ-39762 - the revised version that was delivered from the year 2000.

KAwZ-39763 - in contrast to the standard, this model was delivered with a four-cylinder diesel engine from GAZ. Other models had gasoline engines.

KAwZ-39765 - this vehicle had a significantly longer body and a longer wheelbase than the basic variant. This allowed 28 seats to be accommodated. In the later years of production, the number was reduced to just 22 seats in favor of the comfort of the passengers.

KAwZ-39766 - based on the chassis of the GAZ-3308 truck , the bus had four-wheel drive. It was designed for the oil industry.

KAwZ-39769 - the largest version of the vehicle with a wheelbase extended by almost two meters and 34 seats for passengers. Only a very small number was built.

KAwZ-397601 - a version specially equipped for cold areas. In particular, the interior could also be heated, an additional tank was available and the driver's work area was structurally separated from the passenger compartment.

KAwZ-3976-014 - this special version is more like a truck than a bus. Four passengers and two tons of load could be taken.
