The BTR-90 is an armored personnel carrier that was developed in 1993 and first presented to the public in 1994. The BTR-90 is built in the mechanical engineering plant of Arsamas , which belongs to the Russian GAZ Group .

This model of the BTR series has been reinforced in its armor compared to its predecessors. The vehicle received the turret of the BMP-2 armored personnel carrier, including its 30 mm armament, and a grenade launcher. The cannon is stabilized horizontally and vertically and has a target height of 75 °. Only a few copies of it are currently in service with the troops of the Russian Interior Ministry and the armed forces of the Ukraine .

With the BTR-90M there is a more powerful version that has not yet been built in series. She received the turret of the BMP-3 and a 100-mm cannon of the 2A70 type.
