The Mowag Piranha is a vehicle concept for wheeled armored personnel carriers developed in the 1970s by the Swiss company Mowag (today General Dynamics European Land Systems - Mowag GmbH ). They were built in the versions 4 × 4, 6 × 6, 8 × 8 and 10 × 10, including various equipment options such as B. an amphibious version. A total of 10,000 piranhas are currently in use worldwide.

The weight of the standard versions varies between 12.5 and 25 tons, with the payload of 3 or 10 tons still having to be deducted. Vehicles based on the piranha are used by the US armed forces under the designation LAV-25 in the US Marine Corps and as a Stryker in the US Army . In the Australian Army , the armored car was introduced as an Australian Light Armored Vehicle.

Romania ordered an unknown number of Piranha IIIs in 2017 in order to expand the stocks of vehicles already procured.
