The DAF YP408 is a Dutch four-axle armored car with axles 1, 3 and 4 powered. The steering takes place via the two front axles. The vehicle has a six-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of six liters and a five-speed gearbox. The first prototypes were made in the late 1950s and series production began in 1963. The vehicle was used in the Netherlands until the late 1980s. The total of about 750 copies built were used in the Koninklijke Landmacht , in Surinam , in the Portuguese army and to this day in the military police of the Força Aérea Portuguesa (Portuguese Air Force). The successor model in the Dutch army is the AIFV armored personnel carrier .

The DAF YP408 is not an amphibious vehicle , but can cross bodies of water up to a depth of 1.20 m ( fording depth ). There is also no NBC protection .
