The DAF XF Euro 6 is a long- haul truck produced by the Dutch manufacturer DAF since February 2013 and the successor to the DAF XF105 .

DAF presented the new XF tractor unit for the first time at the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2012 in Hanover . The driver's cab of the predecessor was extensively revised. A redesigned radiator grille with optimized air flows increases the cooling of the engine and reduces fuel consumption. The chassis received a modified axle suspension for even greater stability.

The focus in the development of the new model was the introduction of diesel engines with the Euro 6 emissions standard . To achieve this, enormous technical effort is required, along with more weight. DAF achieves the new emission standard through common rail injection with variable turbocharger , exhaust gas recirculation and exhaust gas aftertreatment through DeNOx catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters . The XF has a 90 liter Ad Blue tank as standard, optionally with 140 liters, which is installed under the driver's cab. The Euro 6 Paccar MX-13 12.9 liter 6-cylinder diesel engine is available with 300 kW / 410 PS, 340 kW / 460 PS or 375 kW / 510 PS. The engines were extensively tested by DAF before the introduction and are designed to cover 1.6 million kilometers. Despite the additional units and higher weight for the Euro 6 standard, they should require less fuel than the engines in the DAF XF105 with the Euro 5 emissions standard. This is probably due to the fact that DAF only achieved an additional weight of 90 kg for the XF compared to the XF105. A new, lighter rear axle for gross combination weights of up to 44 tons and a wheel suspension with a Stabilink construction that integrates the function of the stabilizer helped to save weight - as did a new fifth wheel coupling plate and the optimized assembly of the battery boxes.

Power is transmitted to the rear wheels by 12 or 16-speed manual transmissions , or 12 or 16- speed automatic transmissions , which are supplied by ZF Friedrichshafen . Maintenance is planned every 150,000 kilometers . The fuel tank volume is a maximum of 1500 liters.

Comfort and safety equipment

In the middle of the dashboard is an information display that DAF calls “Driver Performance Assistant” (DPA). Among other things, the driver receives detailed information on fuel consumption and information on braking behavior. Tips on anticipatory driving style, such as shifting into a higher gear, are provided by automatic messages and are intended to promote an efficient driving style.

Compared to the XF 105, the XF Euro 6 has new seats, a new dashboard with a new steering wheel and new switches and cup holders. The loungers have been optimized and enlarged for maximum sleeping comfort. The engine is installed in such a way that - together with the cooling system built into the chassis - the height of the cab floor only increased by 3 centimeters despite the additional units for the Euro 6 emissions standard. As a result, the XF Super Space Cab has a volume of 12.6 cubic meters and continues to be the most spacious driver's cab in the long-haul truck market segment.

In addition to the usual safety systems of a tractor unit such as the anti-lock braking system , retarder and engine brake, there is an electronic stability program as standard , which can optionally be expanded with a collision warning system, adaptive cruise control and emergency brake assist . In the event of a collision, the cab suspension is energy-absorbing. The lighting system is available with LED lights on request and also has daytime running lights and cornering lights .
