DAF 2600
The DAF 2600 was a long- haul truck built by DAF (Automobile) from 1962 to 1974 .
The truck was presented at the RAI in Amsterdam in 1962 and met with great interest from the specialist audience. Built in a forward control design, it was one of the first trucks that was specially designed for the needs of the driver. For a truck from the 1960s, it was equipped as the F2600 (truck) and T2600 tractor unit, very ergonomically, with all control levers within reach, good all-round visibility and comfortable air seats. It also had a powerful heating and ventilation system. The 2600 was the first truck with the option of two beds. In the cabin they were stacked and the upper one was foldable. Considered by many to be the first modern truck, the DAF 2600 played its part in the rise of international road freight transport.
Model history
Originally the model was powered by a Leyland Motors P680 (11.1-liter six-cylinder diesel engine with 220 hp). Later this was replaced by the self-developed DAF-DK engine with 230 HP, DKA 250 HP and 1972 DKB with 304 HP. From 1968 the model was only called DAF F before the type designation, and the original honeycomb grille was replaced by a radiator grille with three horizontal slats. In 1974 the F series was replaced by the DAF 2800 series. A total of around 15,000 copies were produced.
