In 1938 Van Doorne NV Aanhangwagenfabriek (DAF) had received the order to build twelve armored vehicles to equip the third armored squadron of the Dutch army. DAF still called the prototype presented in 1938 the PT 3, in the Dutch army the vehicles delivered from 1939 were called the DAF M39. In May 1940, the twelve copies built up to then took part in the fighting against the German Wehrmachtpart. A vehicle was destroyed here. After the occupation of the Netherlands, the rest were used in German police units and on the Eastern Front. Two more specimens were destroyed, as can be proven by photos. The whereabouts of the remaining DAF M39s as well as the number of those still built in 1940 is unknown.
