The EE-9 Cascavel ( Portuguese : Cascavel , in German : rattlesnake ) is a six-wheeled and all-wheel-drive (6 × 6) light armored vehicle made in Brazil . The vehicle was developed and produced by the Brazilian armaments company Engesa in the 1970s. An 8 × 8 version of the more modern wheeled armored vehicle VBTP-MR Guarani , equipped with a 105 mm cannon as the primary weapon, is intended to replace the EE-9 Cascavel in the Brazilian army.

The EE-9 Cascavel is also used by the following countries (selection): Burkina Faso , Chile , Ecuador , Iran , Iraq , Israel , Colombia , Libya , Myanmar , Peru , Qatar , Uruguay and the Republic of Cyprus ;

Versions

  • Cascavel I : had the US M36 turret with a 37 mm cannon, which was already used in the M3 Stuart .
  • Cascavel II : equipped with a French 90 mm cannon, which was already used by the AML-90 armored vehicle .
  • Cascavel III : equipped with a 90 mm cockerill cannon and installation of a more modern gearbox .
  • Cascavel IV : new engine and gearbox, improved night vision optics and laser rangefinder. In addition, a .50 cal machine gun was installed for air defense .
