Arlan ( Russian Арлан ) is a mine-protected armored multi-purpose wheeled vehicle (4 × 4), which has a high ground clearance and a V-shaped underside in order to dissipate the explosion energy of an explosive device in the best possible way.
Project history
The Arlan is based on the South African Marauder , the design of which was adapted to the Central Asian continental climate . The company "Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering" (KPE) is a joint venture between the state-owned "Kazakhstan Engineering" and the South African Paramount Group . A new factory was built specifically for production, in which the Barys armored personnel carrier is also manufactured. The first vehicles were delivered in August 2016, the last tranche will be delivered in 2018 [obsolete] .
Technology and armament
The Arlan has a strong mine protection that meets STANAG 4569 Level 3A / 3B - this corresponds to the explosion of 8 kg TNT equivalent under each wheel or under the tub and 50 kg TNT equivalent at a distance of 5.0 m. The ballistic protection meets STANAG 4569 Level 3 and resists shots from all small arms with armor-piercing ammunition in caliber up to 12.7 mm. Temperature amplitudes of 100 degrees Celsius (minus 50 to plus 50 degrees Celsius) should not pose a problem in terms of use.
The Arlan, which is delivered to the Kazakh special forces, is equipped with various additional equipment such as navigation and communication devices, night vision and IR sensors.
