Al-Fares ( Arabic الفارس, DMG al-Fāris ) is the name of a Jordanian armored vehicle that was developed in the 2010s.

Project history

Al-Fares was developed by Jordan Manufacturing and Service Solutions (JMSS), part of the Jordanian state defense company King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB). Together with the 8 × 8 wheeled armored vehicle Al-Mared , it is the second armored vehicle that KADDB developed in-house, although a cooperation with foreign armaments companies was originally planned. Al-Fares was presented at the armaments fair SOFEX 2018 . The three-axis Al-Fares closes the gap between the Al-Mared and the two-axis Al-Wahsh .

Technology and armament

The Al-Fares (6 × 6) with the steerable front and rear axles has a comparatively small turning radius of 6 meters at low speed and a vehicle length of 7.46 meters. The 24-ton armored car is powered by a 429 hp Cummins diesel engine and reaches 110 km / h on paved roads. The driving range is given as 600 km. In addition to the three-man crew, there is room for eight more soldiers in the interior. The chassis of the 6 × 6 vehicle was supplied by the Belarusian company Volat . According to KADDB, the vehicle has a mine protection system that meets STANAG 4569 level 3A. The armor can be increased to STANAG 4569 protection level 4a / 3b with an additional armor set. The vehicle is set down through the rear hatch, if necessary it is also possible to leave the vehicle via four roof hatches. The armament includes two 7.62-mm machine guns at the rear of the vehicle, which are operated by the soldiers carried and from a turret. The turret can be equipped with a 30 mm automatic cannon. There is also the option of installing a remote-controlled weapon station . To date, the Al-Fares is not yet in series production. However, it is assumed that the takeover into the Jordanian armed forces will take place.
