The Nexter Titus (often TITUS , an acronym of T actical I nfantry T ransport & U tility S ystem ) is an armored personnel from French - Czech production. The all- wheel -drive armored car ( 6 × 6 ) is used by the Czech armed forces .
history
The TITUS is an armored vehicle family on a 6 × 6 chassis . It was developed jointly by the Czech vehicle manufacturer Tatra Trucks and the French defense company Nexter in the 2010s and presented to the public for the first time at the Defense & Security Equipment International armaments fair in 2013. The chassis was developed by Tatra, the superstructure by Nexter. Conceptually, the performance profile of the Titus should represent a link between armored vehicles such as the Pandur II (8 × 8) and the all-protection vehicle Dingo 2 (4 × 4), both of which are used by the Czech army. Compared to the two vehicle types, the level of protection of the TITUS can be upgraded with the Nexter SAFEPRO protection concept: level 4 corresponds to all-round protection against armor-piercing 14.5 × 114 mm ammunition. The mine protection class 4a / 4b corresponds to protect against explosive anti-tank mines with 10 kg TNT under a wheel or center under the vehicle. The TITUS also offers protection against booby traps with an explosive force of up to 150 kg TNT. A similar vehicle made in France is the Véhicule blindé multi-rôles .
technology
A special feature is the front and rear wheel steering of the 1st and 3rd axles, which enables a very small turning circle of only 13 m. This is particularly advantageous in urban areas. The Jordanian Al-Fares , whose chassis was developed by the Belarusian vehicle manufacturer MZKT , has a similar configuration . The main armament consists of a remote-controlled weapon station , which can be equipped with rapid-fire barrel weapons in caliber 7.62 mm to 20 mm or 40 mm machine grenade launchers . On each side there are three shooting hatches for mounted soldiers.
