The Lazar BVT is a mine-protected, armored troop transport (8 × 8) from Serbian production.

History and technology

The troop transport was presented to the public in Serbia in 2008. Earlier, there was talk of the need for new armored troop tanks for the army, for which the Russian BTR-90 , the Finnish Patria and the Swiss piranha were considered. When and in what quantity the Lazar BVT should be purchased has not yet been decided.

The Lazar BVT was developed based on the MRAP ( Mine Resistant Ambush Protected ) program and is intended to provide good underbody protection as well as axle and wheel protection against mines. According to STANAG  4569, the armor meets the requirements of Class III on the front and Class II on the side and rear, with additional components Class V on the front and Class IV on the side and rear. The standard armament consists of a MK 20 × 110 mm and a MG 7.62 × 54 mm, other armament is also possible as an option.

In 2013 a new version was presented with the (current name) Lazar 2, which, according to the manufacturer, should combine the properties of an MRAP with those of a wheeled armored personnel carrier. The main armament is now a 30 mm automatic cannon, the side firing hatches have been reduced from ten to nine. Pakistan expressed interest in 15 units of the new version for the time being, three of which were delivered in 2013. Other interested parties were Bangladesh and Iraq .

In February 2014, it was announced that Pakistan would buy at least twenty Lazar-2 troop transports. The Pakistani army has been testing the armored personnel carrier for seven months, in parallel with its competitors from Turkey , the USA and Russia , with the tests being completed with the highest marks. The testers were particularly impressed by the fact that representatives of the manufacturer were in the vehicle of the Lazar 2 during a test with sharp fire.
