The Fahd is an all-wheel-drive (4 × 4) Egyptian armored personnel carrier , which was developed in the 1980s by the German company Henschel-Wehrtechnik for Egypt.

description

In the early 1980s, the Egyptian army commissioned the German arms company Henschel-Wehrtechnik to design an all-terrain armored personnel carrier. The company name was TH390. Production began back in 1985 at the Kader plant in Egypt , near Cairo . The Fahd is essentially based on a Mercedes-Benz truck chassis, which is provided with a cuboid armored structure. The armor provides reliable protection against projectiles of the 7.62 × 51 mm NATO caliber and shrapnel. The Fahd impresses with its simple and robust construction and is optimized for use in desert terrain. The armored car is equipped with power steering and a tire pressure system that can be regulated by the driver as standard.

There are different versions of the Fahd; The Fahd-240/30 version is equipped with the turret of the BMP-2 , and a 7.62-mm MG is arranged coaxially with the 30-mm automatic cannon. There is also a medical tank version as well as a command and radio vehicle version.

The Fahd is used by Kuwait , Oman , Sudan and Egypt, with Egypt having the largest number of around 1000 vehicles.
