The Mowag Roland is a wheeled armored vehicle from the Swiss company Mowag (today: General Dynamics European Land Systems - Mowag GmbH ). The vehicle was developed in 1960, the prototype tested in 1963. The Roland was built from 1964 to 1980.

Equipment and use

It was designed for various tasks: ambulance, reconnaissance vehicle, armored troop transport, as a clearing and intervention vehicle for unpeaceful protests and as a rocket launcher . The driver has a roof hatch , directly behind it is a rotatable roof section for a machine gun (MG) or a turret with a heavy MG that is operated by the commander. The engine is on the left in the rear of the vehicle. A door is installed on the right side of the rear and on the left side of the vehicle. Some African operators have also equipped their Mowag Roland with launchers for ten unguided rockets.

Mowag roland vehicles for police units often do not have their weapons, but are for it with siren, flashing lights , search lights , speakers and a V-shaped plow blade fitted. Over 500 pieces were produced and delivered to Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Greece, Mexico, Peru and the police force in Switzerland, among others. In the Swiss Military Museum Full , a Mowag Roland belonging to the Bern cantonal police, including a clearing blade, was on display until 1997.
