Al-Mared ( Arabic المارد, DMG al-Mārid ) is the name of a Jordanian armored vehicle that was developed in the 2010s. It is manufactured by the Jordanian state company Jordan Manufacturing and Service Solutions (JMSS).

Project history

Al-Mared was developed by Jordan Manufacturing and Service Solutions (JMSS), part of the Jordanian state defense company King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB). To date (2018), the armored vehicle is the largest armored vehicle that is entirely developed and built by Jordanian companies. Two crew members are stuck on the vehicle; eight infantrymen can be transported. The first vehicle was presented at the armaments fair SOFEX 2018 . Ten should have been produced by July 2018, and a total of 50 Al-Mareds are planned to be produced in different versions.

Technology and armament

The vehicle is based on an 8 × 8 truck chassis from the Czech company Tatra . The troop seats come from US production and are equipped with a damping mechanism that is supposed to protect the seated person from mine explosions. The drive unit is mounted at the front on the right-hand side and consists of a 420 hp diesel engine that is purchased from Cummins . A six-speed fully automatic transmission is installed for transmission to the eight wheels. This enables a maximum driving speed of 110 km / h to be achieved on the road. The armor corresponds to STANG 4569 Level 3.

The total weight of the vehicle depends on the armament, but does not exceed 25 tons, including the crew, weapon station, fuel and other equipment.

The main armament of the Al-Mared is installed in the turret, which - as shown at the armaments fair SOFEX 2018 - is equipped with machine guns of various calibres. The armament should be adapted depending on the version.
