The KrAZ Fiona ( Ukrainian КрАЗ Фіона ) is a protected vehicle that serves as a personnel carrier for up to 14 people. It is produced by the Ukrainian vehicle manufacturer KrAZ , who developed the vehicle with the Streit Group .

Development history

The KrAZ Fiona was developed by KrAZ in the mid-2010s for customers in the Middle East with the Canadian - Emirati Streit Group. In the course of the intensification of the war in Ukraine , it became clear that in the medium term Ukraine needs armaments production that is independent of Russia and that is capable of producing modern military vehicles, which, in addition to being export-oriented, also aims to be used in the Ukrainian armed forces. The KrAZ Fiona made its debut in February 2015 at the IDEX arms fair in the United Arab Emirates.

The protected wheeled vehicle is based on the 6 × 6 chassis of the truck type KrAZ-6322 and has a V-shaped vehicle pan that deflects the force of an explosion to the side in the event of an explosion under the vehicle. The Fiona has a gross vehicle weight of 18,000 kg, and two fuel tanks with a capacity of 250 l each are installed. A bulletproof windshield is supposed to offer the crew protection from 7.62 mm projectiles, while four windows with shooting openings were installed on each side. Access is via a door on the rear of the vehicle. The Fiona crew transport area can be freely configured according to the needs of the customer. Originally it was planned that the vehicle would transport two crew members with ten soldiers in the crew compartment, who would find space on specially sprung seats. The arrangement and the number of seats can be changed, a maximum of 14 soldiers should be able to find space in the interior. A roof hatch in the passenger compartment allows access to the tower, which can be equipped with a heavy machine gun . Engines of different brands can be installed, so the Russian JaMZ diesel engines usually installed in KrAZ trucks should no longer be mandatory. One version of Fiona had a 330 hp diesel engine, an MFZ 430 clutch and a high-speed transmission, while another version had a Cummins 380 hp engine and an Allison automatic transmission. Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the focus was on Western or Asian engine manufacturers such as Deutz , Cummins, Daimler-Benz , Fiat , Weichai , Ford and Toyota .
