The KrAZ-260 ( Ukrainian КрАЗ-260 ) is a truck (6 × 6) from the former Soviet and now Ukrainian vehicle manufacturer KrAZ . It is the successor to the KrAZ-255 and is also designed in a hood design. With the KrAZ-250, there is also a civil version of the vehicle without all-wheel drive.

description

Series production of the KrAZ-260 began in 1979 when the production lines at the Kremenchuk Automobile Plant were converted from the KrAZ-255 to the KrAZ-260. It wasn't until 1985 that the first KrAZ-260 were spotted in public at a troop parade in Moscow's Red Square when they were pulling 152mm howitzers .
The vehicle can pull equipment weighing up to 30 tons if it is not loaded. With a full load it is still possible to pull ten tons. It was introduced in the NVA from 1988.

The KrAZ-260 is equipped with an eight -cylinder diesel engine of the type JaMZ-238L , which draws an output of 300 PS (221 kW) from the displacement of 14,866 cm 3 . The manual transmission of the type JaMZ-238B was also manufactured by the Jaroslawski Motorny Sawod . It has eight forward and two reverse gears, and in terms of design it consists of a four-speed gearbox with reverse gear and a two-stage front group . As a central component of the all-wheel drive, there is also a transfer case , in which a lockable center differential and a two-stage reduction for off-road operation are also installed.

Since 1994 a modernized version of the vehicle with the designation KrAZ-6322 has been built as a successor. This type of truck is equipped with the JaMZ-238BL engine. The KrAZ-260 was produced until 1993.

Model variants

  • KrAZ-260W - version as a tractor unit, which is designed for a permissible total weight of 27.5 t. On bad roads it is reduced to 23 t.
  • KrAZ-260G - model variant with an extended chassis
  • KrAZ-260D - prototype of a tractor unit with power take-off for semi-trailers with axles driven (via a PTO shaft). Only two copies were made.
  • KrAZ-260L - prototype of a forest vehicle that never went into series production
  • KrAZ-6437 - forest vehicle, which was produced in series. There have been various changes to the chassis.
