The KrAZ-255 ( Ukrainian КрАЗ-255 , German transcription KrAS-255 ) is a heavy Soviet truck with all-wheel drive from the vehicle manufacturer KrAZ , which was produced in series from 1967. The truck has been and is in many countries of the former Comecon type region and today's CIS also used -Staaten both military and civilian, and is above the Ural-375D settled.

The KrAZ-255 is the successor to the KrAZ-214 , production started in 1967. Compared to its predecessor, the truck is equipped with a more powerful water-cooled eight-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine of the JaMZ-238 type, which is also used in many other trucks, tractors and in the MT-LB armored transport. The large-volume engine from the Jaroslawski Motorny Sawod has an output of 240 hp (176.5 kW) with a displacement of 14,860 cm³. All three axles are connected to the drive train via a lockable transfer case.

In 1979, all trucks at KrAZ were revised, with no major changes being made. The main improvement is the now installed dual-circuit brake system. These models can be recognized by an additional 1 at the end of the name.

The vehicles also serve as base vehicles for special bodies such as mobile cranes , tankers, military equipment or excavators. It is not clear exactly when production was stopped, the information fluctuates between 1989 and 1994. The successor to the KrAZ-255 is the KrAZ-260 , which itself was only manufactured until 1993. From 1994 the KrAZ-6322 was built, which is similar to the KrAZ-260 and meets a similar requirement profile.

The GDR imported the KrAZ-255 in large numbers, as did other trucks in the series. From 1970 he was employed by the NVA , he was less common in civilian life.
