The honorary citizenship is the highest municipal award of the city of Münchberg . Since June 1, 1965, the legal basis for the award has been the statute of the city of Münchberg on awards .

Honorary citizens are invited as guests of honor at representative events in the city. In the event of an economic emergency through no fault of its own, the city council can grant an honorary salary once or continuously, the amount of which is at its discretion. Honorary citizens have the right to be entered in the city's Golden Book. On death, the city takes part in the burial in an honorable way. In addition to honorary citizenship, the city awards a citizen medal in two stages.

Since 1877 the following people have been made honorary citizens.

  3. Ludwig Zapf (born December 16, 1829 in Münchberg, † August 25, 1904 in Bayreuth )

    Awarded on March 21, 1893
    Zapf was made an honorary citizen on the occasion of his 25th anniversary with the company. He has published numerous books, was editor of the local daily newspaper, author of numerous prehistoric, local history articles and well known local history explorer. A street was named after him in the 1920s.
  4. Fritz Schoedel (born December 22, 1886 in Münchberg; † January 8, 1966 in Daisendorf )

    Awarded on December 14, 1961
    Schödel was the director of Friedrich Schoedel AG for many years. On the occasion of the completion of his 75th year of life, he was granted honorary citizenship in recognition of his significant economic services to the development of the city and his diverse public and social work. He was a member of the local council from 1910 to 1926.
  5. Richard Hofmann (born August 29, 1880 in Münchberg, † March 30, 1966 in Münchberg)

    Specht was mayor of Münchberg from 1945 to 1964. After 1945 he did a lot of building work. His name is closely linked to the history of Münchberg.
