The KrAZ-214 ( Ukrainian КрАЗ-214 ) was a Soviet truck (6 × 6) made by the manufacturer KrAZ from Kremenchuk in Ukraine . This type of truck was and is used in many countries of the former Eastern Bloc and today's CIS . The truck model was widely used as the basis of the TMM rapid bridge system .
description
The KrAZ-214 was equipped with a six-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine of the type JaAZ -206B , which with a displacement of 6970 cm³ produced an output of 200 hp (147 kW). The engine is a license production of the in-line six-cylinder from the Detroit Diesel Series 71, which came to the USSR under the lending and leasing law with the USA during World War II. The KrAZ-214 was used as a pontoon carrier, dump truck , tractor, loading vehicle, self-loader with anti-aircraft missiles , tank trucks and crane trucks or with girder bridges. From 1959 there was also a variant without all-wheel drive, the KrAZ-219 .
The KrAZ-214 had very narrow wheels on the front axle (dimension 15.00 R20 all around). The steering assistance was very imprecise, as it was not operated hydraulically, as in today's trucks, but air-assisted (pneumatic). It was therefore often misunderstood as a defective steering because of the strong “wobbling” front wheels.
The vehicles were equipped with a tire pressure control system that made it possible to change the tire pressure while driving.
The truck had been produced under the name JaAZ-214 in the Jaroslawski Avtomobilny Sawod since 1956/57 . In 1959, after 1265 units from JaAZ, vehicle production was finally outsourced to KrAZ. As a result, the Yaroslavl bear was no longer used as a hood ornament . In 1963 there was a revised variant called the KrAZ-214B. The successor was the KrAZ-255 in 1967 .
