The KrAZ-257 ( Ukrainian КрАЗ-257 ) is a truck made by the Soviet and later Ukrainian manufacturer KrAZ . It was produced from 1965 to 1995 and then replaced by the KrAZ-260 and other types. The vehicle is the predominantly civilian version of the much better known KrAZ-255 .
Vehicle history
The similar predecessor model KrAZ-219 had been manufactured since 1959 . Visually, the two trucks initially only differed in that the additional grille in front of the radiator grille and the lamps of the KrAZ-219 were omitted. Later, the front headlights of the KrAZ-257 were housed in their own square sheet metal housings attached to the fenders. In terms of technical changes, it should be mentioned above all that the six-cylinder engine JaAZ-M206A of the KrAZ-219 was replaced by the significantly more powerful eight-cylinder diesel engine JaMZ-238, which was still supplied by the Jaroslawski Motorny Sawod .
The basic version KrAZ-257 was manufactured from 1965 to around 1977. A revised version of the KrAZ-257B has been available since the second half of the 1970s, which differs from the original model mainly through a modified braking system. Occasionally it is also carried under the model name KrAZ-257B1. Production ceased between 1991 and 1995, depending on the source. The KrAZ-250 was planned as the successor, but it was only built until 1992.
There are two similar models, the KrAZ-256B (dump truck) and the KrAZ-258 (tractor unit or tractor unit with ballast).
