The KrAZ-256B ( Ukrainian КрАЗ-256Б ) is a truck made by the Soviet and later Ukrainian manufacturer KrAZ . It was produced from 1966 to 1994 and then replaced by the KrAZ-6510 and other types. The vehicle is a variant of the KrAZ-257 with a tipping body.

The designation KrAZ-256 is sometimes found in the literature .

Manufacturing history

As early as 1959, when truck production began at KrAZ, the KrAZ-222 was a heavy three-axle tipper. This was based on the chassis of the KrAZ-219 and was very similar to the KrAZ-256B, especially in appearance. In the first few years, the KrAZ-256B was delivered with headlights, which, like the previous model, were housed in round sockets and not, as in the new generation of trucks, in angular sheet metal boxes on the fenders.

In the course of model renewals, the truck was renamed KrAZ-256B1 in 1977. He kept this designation until the end of production in 1994. The innovations consisted mainly of detailed improvements, only major changes were made to the brake system.

In 1986, 18 special copies were made, which were used during the clean-up work in the partially destroyed Chernobyl nuclear power plant . Changes were mainly made to the cab to protect the driver. The model was named KrAZ-256B1-030.

The classic versions of the KrAZ-256B model were exported in large numbers. Buyers were also the GDR, where the vehicle was used on many construction sites.
