The KrAZ-MPV Shrek One or KrAZ Shrek One for short ( Ukrainian КрАЗ-МПВ Шрек Один ) is a protected vehicle that serves as a personnel carrier for up to six people. It is produced by the Ukrainian vehicle manufacturer KrAZ , who developed the vehicle with the Streit Group .

Development history

The KrAZ Shrek One was developed by KrAZ in the mid-2010s with the Canadian - Emirati Streit Group. In the course of the intensification of the war in Ukraine , it became clear that in the medium term Ukraine needs armaments production that is independent of Russia and that is capable of producing modern military vehicles, which, in addition to being export-oriented, also aims to be used in the Ukrainian armed forces. The first Shrek-One vehicles of various variants were delivered to the United Nations . They are currently deployed as part of the MINUSMA peace mission in Mali and other crisis areas in Africa.

The protected wheeled vehicle is based on the 4 × 4 chassis of the truck type KrAZ-5233НЕ and has a V-shaped vehicle pan that deflects the force of an explosion to the side in the event of an explosion under the vehicle. The Shrek One has an empty weight of - depending on the variant - 16 to 17.5 tons, in addition two fuel tanks with a capacity of 250 l each are installed. A bulletproof windshield is supposed to offer the crew protection from 7.62 mm projectiles, while four windows with shooting openings were installed on each side. Access is via a door on the rear of the vehicle. The Shrek One personnel transport compartment can accommodate up to ten soldiers. The arrangement and the number of seats can be changed. Engines of different brands can be installed, the Russian JaMZ diesel engines usually installed in KrAZ trucks should therefore no longer be mandatory due to the political tensions between Ukraine and Russia. One version of the Shrek One had a 330 hp JaMZ diesel engine, while other versions were equipped with a Cummins , Ford or Deutz engine. A Shrek-One variant has a crane arm that is used to clear unconventional explosive devices and incendiary devices . This allows suspicious objects to be removed from a distance of up to 20 meters.
