The RN-94 is the name of a wheeled armored vehicle from Turkish and Romanian production from the 1990s.
History of origin
The RN-94 6 × 6 armored infantry fighting vehicle was created in the mid-1990s from a bi-national private initiative of the two companies Nurol Machinery and Industry Company (Turkey) and ROMARM (Romania). The first prototype was completed in 1995 and the Turkish Army Command then bought five pre-production vehicles for extensive vehicle evaluations. In order to reduce production costs, certain components of other vehicles were used or the diesel engine or the automatic transmission were bought in. A large-scale production has not yet taken place. So far only prototypes of different variants have been built. This includes mortar carriers as well as ambulance and battlefield radar vehicles .
The only documented export was - according to SIPRI - to Bangladesh . This tranche comprised nine RN-94s in the ambulance version, which were delivered in 2005.
Technology and armament
The RN-94 is fully amphibious . It is driven by two propellers , which are located on both sides on the back of the tub. This allows the vehicle to reach speeds of 8-10 km / h in the water. The armament is in the 360 ° swiveling turret on the hull. Various weapon stations from different manufacturers were tested, for example the Dragar tower from GIAT , which was already produced under license in Turkey. The armament includes barrel weapons of various calibers from 7.62 mm to 25 mm. Standard equipment includes power steering on the front wheels, a central tire pressure control system and night vision devices . An NBC protection is not installed.
