MSR medium

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The MSR medium ( acronym for modified Strullu-Romand ) is a nutrient medium that is often used for the in-vitro cultivation of mycorrhizal fungi . It was published in 1996 by S. Declerck et al. developed and enabled the dual cultivation of Glomus versiforme with Ri-T-DNA-transformed carrot roots . The MSR medium is thus similar to the Minimal Medium , which was developed for a similar purpose. The concentration of nutrients was deliberately kept as low as possible in order to enable the germination of the mycorrhizal spores and the simultaneous growth of the symbiosis partner .

By using live plants instead of transformed roots, the development of autotrophic systems is possible. In this case, the MSR medium does not need any sugar, since the mycorrhiza is nourished by the products of photosynthesis .
