Earbook

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An earbook is a book that contains themed CDs as an integral part. The name is made up of the words "ear" (English for "ear") and "book" (English for "book"), but it is unknown in the English language itself as a sham Anglicism . In the past, such a product would have been referred to as the "CD accompanying the book".

Basic idea

The idea behind an earbook is to give the reader of a book a more concrete idea of the topics described in the book through the acoustic support provided by the CDs. The combination of both media is therefore ideal for photo books, for example, in order to enclose typical noises / sounds of the cities and landscapes viewed.

The combination can also be used to give the reader of a musician's biography access to his recordings. For example, recordings by The Police , Status Quo and Chris Rea have been released as an earbook with up to 11 CDs. Depending on your point of view, the earbook can also be understood as a CD release with a large booklet or cover . In this case, it is a special form of the box set .
